What a caption generator actually does
A caption generator listens to the speech in a video, writes it down, and works out exactly when each phrase starts and stops. That timing is the hard part. A transcript on its own is just a wall of text; captions are that text cut into short lines and pinned to the moment the words are said, so the viewer reads them in sync with the picture.
Doing that by hand means scrubbing a timeline and typing timecodes, which is roughly an hour of work for ten minutes of video.
